Oct. 30 Writers at the University Series Features Alissa Nutting

On Tuesday, Oct. 30, The University of Tampa will host a reading by Alissa Nutting, assistant professor of English at Grinnell College, as part of the Writers at the University series. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery, and is free and open to the public.

Nutting will read from her short story collection Unclean Jobs for Women and Girls, which was selected as the winner of the 6th Starcherone Prize for Innovative Fiction and a was ForeWord Book of the Year finalist.

Nutting is also author of the novel Tampa, which addresses double standards like gender-based expectations of females regarding beauty and the great extent of mischief that women may be forgiven for. Her writing has appeared in Tin House, Fence, BOMB, Elle, The New York Times, Conduit and O: The Oprah Magazine.

The Valrico, FL, native holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Alabama and a doctorate from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. She is currently working on two television pilots.
