Career Specialties: Professor Tankersley specializes in teaching reading education and has a Florida Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in teaching English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Professional and Community Activities: Through experience as a teacher in Hillsborough County, she has become proficient in the area of collaborative research. She was selected as a member of the Hillsborough County Reading Training Cadre, which was responsible for training first through fifth-grade Hillsborough County teachers in current reading teaching techniques. The group was also responsible for introducing ESOL methods, strategies and curriculum.

Tankersley has been significantly involved in numerous writing and research projects, and she coordinated, wrote and successfully received six grants to help individualize instruction for a diverse population of students.

Honors and Awards: She was named Gorrie Elementary's "Teacher of the Year" and UT's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences "Part-Time Instructor of the Year."
