Career Specialties
Mary Martinasek specializes in social marketing, mixed method research inquiry and health program evaluation. Her research interests include vaping, inhalational marijuana and waterpipe tobacco (hookah smoking) related primarily to young adults. She also conducts research related to asthma. Martinasek is a certified asthma educator, certified health education specialist and a registered respiratory therapist.
Professional and Community Activities
Martinasek is a volunteer for the Southeast U.S. American Lung Association Board and the American School Health Association Board. She currently serves in appointed positions with the State of Florida’s Tobacco Advisory Council and the Department of Health’s Institutional Review Board. Martinasek is a founding board member and active volunteer with the Tampa Bay Asthma Coalition and serves as co-chair for the Florida Asthma Coalition. She serves on the editorial board for two peer-reviewed journals. In the community, Martinasek provides education to health care students and community members on vaping, hookah, motivational interviewing and lung health issues. She is a tobacco treatment specialist and provides smoking/vaping cessation classes at the University.
