Career Specialties

John Stinespring specializes in microeconomics behaviors ranging from tax avoidance and religious affliation to college roommate peer effects and men cohabiting with their parents. The resulting research reveals tax underreporting's impact on government revenues; the impact of welfare expenditures on religious affiliation; the factors that affect college freshman retention; the causes for adult males to move back in with their parents; the contribution of tax evasion to the fall of the Western Roman Empire; and whether football is a substitute or complement to religious attendance.

In addition, Stinespring studies the intersection of economics and morality in the discipline's founder, Adam Smith. These career specialties fall under the subfields of Behavioral Economics, Economics of Religion, Dynamic Scoring, Laffer Curve analysis, Tax and Fiscal Policy, Economic History of the Roman Empire and Adam Smith studies. In addition to his microeconomics studies, Stinespring creates the biannual forecast for the Tampa Bay Economy which examines local spending, labor and housing trends.

Professional and Community Activities

Stinespring's recent publications have appeared in Higher Education Quarterly, Public Finance Review, Journal of Applied Businesss and Economics, Review of Religious Research, Science, Religion, and Culture, Journal of Economics and Economic Education Research, Journal of Financial Transformation, among others. Stinespring's published textbooks include Mathematica for Microeconomics (Academic Press, 2002). He is a member of the American Economic Association, International Association of Applied Econometrics, Delta Sigma Pi among other affiliations.

Stinespring is the editor of the Tampa Bay Economy which publishes biannual forecasts of the national and local economics.
