Jocelyn Boigenzahn Appointed Director of the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery

Jocelyn Boigenzahn, an art historian and professor, has been named by The University of Tampa as the director of the University’s Scarfone/Hartley Gallery of Art.

As director, Boigenzahn will be responsible for daily gallery operations, grant writing and fundraising, and exhibition and budget planning. Her goals for the gallery are to modernize, digitize and expand access to the University art collection and services of the gallery for the benefit of the UT and greater Tampa Bay communities. She will begin Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Boigenzahn said the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery has had a long tradition of hosting incredible exhibitions of prominent visiting artists as well as showcasing UT’s own faculty and students’ creative works.

“The gallery has lots of untapped potential that we can utilize to better serve our students and engage the people of Tampa Bay,” she added.

Previously, Boigenzahn served as a registration and digital curation intern at the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery, and has also held internships at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Tampa Museum of Art and the Cummer Museum of Arts and Gardens. She was also a volunteer travel exhibitions consultant at the Florida Holocaust Museum, and was an assistant in the Harn Eminent Scholar Chair in Art History program at the University of Florida.

Boigenzahn received a bachelor’s degree at Loyola University-Chicago and master’s degrees from the University of Florida and Johns Hopkins University.

As an adjunct professor at UT, Boigenzahn has taught courses in art appreciation and Greco-Roman art.

Haig Mardirosian, dean of the College of Arts and Letters, said that Boigenzahn’s appointment “affirms our continuing commitment to bringing academic inquiry and learning into touch with the living world of art-making, all to the benefit of the larger community that we reach.”

“This reflects the uniqueness and power of the arts and humanities at our University,” Mardirosian said.
