Professional and Community Activities:
Dean Martin specializes in the area of drug discovery. He is focused on the isolation of natural products that possess antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities. These natural products are obtained from terrestrial as well as marine environs such as sponges, soft corals, tunicates and marine microorganisms. His work incorporates a multifaceted approach from various disciplines such as molecular biology, microbiology and natural products isolation chemistry.

Martin is a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Society of Pharmacognosy and Sigma Xi. He currently serves as coordinator of UT Advanced Placement (AP) Chemistry Day, coordinator of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Project SEED Program and as regional coordinator for the United States National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) competition.
