Francois Couperin Focus of Sep. 9 Harpsichord Recital at UT

The music of French baroque composer, organist and harpsichordist François Couperin will be the focus of a harpsichord recital by Duncan MacMillan at The University of Tampa on Sunday, Sept. 9. The concert, A French Baroque Harpsichord Recital: The Ordres of François Couperin, begins at 3 p.m. in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values and is free and open to the public.

The baroque music period took place from approximately 1600–1760, between the Renaissance music era and the classical music era, and the harpsichord works of Couperin are considered to represent the very refined pinnacle of French baroque musical thought. The recital program will feature four complete orders from Couperin’s Quatrième livre de Pièces de clavecin.

MacMillan is an active solo pianist and harpsichordist, chamber musician and composer. His compositions have been commissioned, recorded and performed internationally, and have been featured on NPR. He teaches piano, harpsichord and music history at UT.
