Feel The Beat at UT Percussion Concert Oct. 1

Stop by The University of Tampa on Wednesday, Oct. 1, for an evening of contemporary percussion, from marimba to djembe. Percussionist David Coash will perform along with bass trombonist, and fellow Florida Orchestra member, Harold Van Schaik. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Plant Hall’s Grand Salon and is free and open to the public.

Coash has been a member of The Florida Orchestra since 1978 and on the music faculty at UT since 1983. In addition, he is principal percussionist with the Lake George Opera, the co-founder and director of Spectrum Contemporary Ensemble and member of the Brass Band of Battle Creek. He has performed with the London Symphony and the Detroit Symphony, as well as at a number of music festivals, and served as timpanist for the Eisenstadter Sommerakadamie in Eisenstadt, Austria, in 2001 and 2002. In addition, he is a member of Bogus Pomp, an ensemble dedicated to performing the music of Frank Zappa.

Van Schaik has been with The Florida Orchestra since 1993. Previously, he had been with the Honolulu Symphony for four seasons, and he has performed with the Chicago Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Syracuse Symphony, Kansas City Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Van Schaik is also an active soloist, clinician, chamber musician and jazz performer.
