UT Faculty Present an Evening of Chamber Music Oct. 2

On Monday, Oct. 2, four University of Tampa faculty members will be joined by pianist Beth Waligorski in an evening of chamber music. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Plant Hall Grand Salon and is free and open to the public.

Faculty performers include Aric Brian, trumpet/flugelhorn; David Coasch, percussion; Barbara Prescott, flute; and Richard Sparrow, horn; playing music from the 20th and 21st centuries that is written for unconventional combinations of instruments. Almost all of the works on the program are by living composers, including Robert Baksa, John R. Beck, Eric Ewazen, Dwight Stone and Laurel Zucker.

Brian is a trumpet player and educator in Tampa. He regularly performs as an extra musician with the Florida Orchestra, Sarasota Orchestra, Sarasota Opera and Opera Tampa and also plays for tours of Broadway shows at the Straz Center and with other touring artists.

Coasch has been a member of the Florida Orchestra since 1978 and is the principal percussionist with the Lake George opera and co-founder and director of Spectrum Contemporary Ensemble. He has been a member of the UT music faculty since 1983

Prescott is an acclaimed area soloist, ensemblist, chamber music coach and teacher. During her graduate studies she was principal flute in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and, after moving to Florida, played in the Florida Gulf Coast Symphony (now the Florida Orchestra).

Sparrow has played fourth horn with the Florida Orchestra since 1984 and served on the UT music faculty since 2005. He is a member of the Tampa Brass, which is the resident brass ensemble at the University.

Waligorski has been an accompanist for 51 years, and was the recipient of a 2009 Individual Artist Grant from the Arts Council of Hillsborough County. She is a senior systems analyst with BayCare Health System and serves on the Tampa Metropolitan Youth Orchestra board.
