Documentary about Nepalese “No-War-No-Peace” Zone to be Shown Sept. 9

The film Silencing the Guns, which is about a village in Nepal that survived decades of armed conflict without one gunshot, will be shown in the Grand Salon in Plant Hall at The University of Tampa on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m.

The screening will be followed by a Q-and-A session with Hem Pun, a Nepalese soldier turned peace activist who will share his experiences in the fight against oppression.

The documentary, which is free and open to the public, has been described as unraveling “the structural violence that the villagers are forced to deal with and the human cost of negative peace.”

The film was produced and financed by the Centre for Peace Studies in Norway. The screening and Q-and-A session is sponsored by the UT departments of government, history and sociology, the Global Action Coalition, United Nations Association of Tampa Bay and the UT United Nations Student Alliance.
