Mission Statement

The seven departments of UT’s College of Arts and Letters engage students in the rigors and powers of devising and examining vital forms of expression, of making and reshaping meaning, and of understanding that meaning. Our diverse programs nurture the abilities and traits most necessary for a rich, flourishing and creative life: cultural empathy; social engagement; physical, emotional, and mental discipline; cultivated memory; moral sensitivity and understanding; and intellectual courage.
