GEICO, one of the largest insurance companies in the country, awarded
The University of Tampa’s Career Services Office with the 2008
Partnership Excellence Award on May 27.
The Partnership
Excellence Award recognizes those individuals who, through partnerships
with GEICO, demonstrate their dedication, customer focus and fanatical
service. The award is only given to a few select schools across the
nation, and is signed by Tony Nicely, chairman of the GEICO Corp., and
George Rogers, regional vice president.
The University of Tampa
has worked with GEICO for close to 10 years, and has provided them with
many opportunities to interact with students in an informal setting,
such as job and internship fairs. GEICO has sponsored speakers for the
annual etiquette dinner for the past five years, and the company donated
an iPod last spring to present to a student who came professionally
dressed to a career expo. The regional recruiter has also done résumé
critiques for the students before job fairs, and has given class
presentations, workshops and mock interviews.
As a result of the
partnership, several UT alumni have been hired by the company, and many
have moved into managerial positions.
