On Wednesday, Feb. 1, construction will begin for Residence Hall VI
and the parking deck addition. Although the University will take
measures to reduce disruption, the campus community will be required to
adjust pedestrian and vehicular traffic patterns.
Adjustments
will be in effect through the duration of the project, scheduled for
completion on Aug. 1, 2007. Construction will have an impact in the
following areas:
• Fencing will encompass the east side of the
athletic fields from Cass Street to Walker Hall and border the Cass
Building, Jaeb Computer Center, Nursing Center, soccer field, track and
intramural field.
• The sidewalk between David A. Straz Jr. Hall
and the computer center will be blocked, and pedestrian traffic
diverted around the McNiff Center and the intramural field. The
sidewalk along the west side of the Cass Building and Jaeb Computer
Center will remain open. Beginning April 2006 an unpaved walk path
will be opened around the outside of the baseball field outfield fence
linking the sidewalk leading from Straz Hall to the Cass St. entrance
at Spartan Avenue.
• The Cass Street entrance (Spartan Avenue)
into the University will be closed except to emergency and commercial
delivery vehicles.
• The two parking areas impacted by the
closure (about 74 spaces) will be relocated to designated parking in
the Cass Building Courtyard Lot on the east side of the Cass Building.
•
About 80 feet on the north end of the Intramural Field will be fenced
off, beginning on Feb. 22, through the end of the project.
• On
March 13, work will commence on the north end of the soccer field and
the field will remain closed until approximately June 1.
• The
track will remain open throughout the timeline, except for brief
periods of approximately four hours when workers will construct
underground pipes.
