More than 140 UT students, faculty and staff have signed up to volunteer in
the fifth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 17. The
event will be held in partnership with the city of Tampa, United Way of Tampa
Bay, the Tampa Tribune, DFK Connects, the Hillsborough County School District,
Friends of Tampa Recreation Inc., the Mayor’s Beautification Program, and the
University of South Florida.
UT student, faculty and staff volunteers
will assemble on campus at 8 a.m., then disperse to work the following sites
from 9 a.m.-noon:
- Daystar Life Center
- Haven Poe Center
- Seniors in Service
- Kid’s City
- McClain Inc.
- Metropolitan Ministries
- Ronald McDonald House
Volunteers are accepted through the day of
the event. All participants are invited to join in the day’s observances, as
well, which include a noon parade that ends at Art and Polly Pepin Stadium and
the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Martin Luther King Jr. Dedication on the
Sykes College of Business front lawn.
