The UT Press has awarded the 2004 Tampa Review Prize for Poetry to Lance
Larsen of Provo, Utah. He will receive a $1,000 cash award and hardcover book
publication in fall 2004 by the University of Tampa Press for his winning
manuscript, Landscape for Several Pairs of Hands.
A selection of poems from the forthcoming book will appear as a “sneak
preview” in one of the next issues of Tampa Review.
Larsen’s first book of poems, Erasable Walls, was published by
New Issues in 1998. His individual poems have appeared in Paris
Review, New York Review of Books, Kenyon Review, New Republic, Threepenny
Review, Southern Review, Grand Street, The Times Literary Supplement and
elsewhere.
Larsen is director of graduate studies at Brigham Young University. He holds
a Ph.D. from the University of Houston, and has received several awards,
including fellowships from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, the Utah Arts
Council and the Cultural Arts Council of Houston. His essay “Looking for Spiral
Jetty” placed first in the 2003 Writers at Work nonfiction competition.
