UT
student volunteerism is on the rise. The 22,711 student volunteer hours in the
community in the 1999-2000 academic year set a new University
record. Officially, 577 students accounted for 11,870 "donation points" to some
70 community organizations during the year. The figures include only the 22
student organizations within the student activities office and none of the
donation figures from other UT volunteer sources, including course
requirements. Events like last fall’s "Into the Streets" and this month’s "Make
a Difference Day" have the University on pace to set another record in
2000-2001.
