The University of Tampa’s
Homecoming 2000 is Monday, October 16 - Sunday, October 22. This year’s theme
is "The Lost Secret of UT." A capsule of highlight events follows.
Monday, October 16
Keynote Talk—Super City for a Super Bowl, Grand Salon, 7:30-8:30 p.m. Guest
speakers are Mike Kelley and Jack Wilson, executive director and chairman,
respectively, of the Super Bowl XXXV Taskforce.
Wednesday, October 18
The full week of official Homecoming activities kicks into high gear with
"Dinner and Racing" in the VIP Room at Tampa Greyhound Track, I-275 and Bird
Street. Open to the public, admission $25.
Thursday, October 19
Bonfire! Always a favorite, this traditional event will be led by President
Ronald Vaughn, the UT Student Government president and the UT National Alumni
Association chairman and president. The fun begins at 8:30 p.m. at Pepin/Rood
Stadium. Admission is free.
Friday, October 20
Minaret Climb, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Channel 13’s Russell Rhoades on Good Morning Tampa Bay. Free and open to the
public. No reservations necessary.
Class of 1950 Reunion Dinner, 6:30 p.m., Grand Salon.
Homecoming Futbol (soccer) game, UT Spartans vs. Rollins Tars, 7:30 p.m.,
Pepin/Rood Stadium.
Class of 1995 Reunion Cocktail Party, 6 p.m., Cold Storage Café, 102 S. Tampa
St., downtown Tampa.
Saturday, October 21
Class of 1990 Reunion Brunch, 10 a.m., Music Room (formerly Dome
Theater).
Art Brunch in the Scarfone/Hartley Galleries, 11 a.m., will feature a
sumptuous mid-day meal among dozens of impressive works of art by UT alumni and
Fine Arts faculty. Tickets are $7. Contact Dorothy Cowden at (813) 253-6217

Class of 1975 Reunion Luncheon, noon, Columbia Restaurant-Sancho Room, 2117
E. Seventh Ave., Ybor City.
Minaret Climb, 2-4 p.m.
Monte Carlo Night, Plant Hall, 7 p.m., is an annual fundraiser that benefits
the UT scholarship fund. Tampa Alpha, the local alumni chapter, hosts the
event, which starts with a reception in the Dome Theatre, then continues into
the Grand Salon, West Verandah and Plant Hall Lobby. Entertainment, a catered
buffet, cocktails, a $5,000 raffle and gaming tables are all included in one of
UT’s biggest party nights of the year. Open to the public. Tickets range from
$35 to $100.
Sunday, October 22
Swinging ‘50s Jazz Concert, 2 p.m., Fletcher Lounge. The class of 1950
swings to the end of the week’s activities with a live jazz band and a big dance
floor for swing dancers young and old.
