Both CNN and ABC news organizations broadcast nationally from The University
of Tampa campus during the first nationally televised presidential debate, on
Tuesday, October 3.
CNN is hosted a town meeting and broadcast opinions of a sample audience of
undecided Florida voters following the debate from a broadcast center set up in
Fletcher Lounge. CNN news anchor Wolf Blitzer handled the show for CNN.
ABC brought in a team of polsters who conducted sample surveys of selected
audience members as to the winner of the debate and the issues each candidate
covered. ABC anchor Peter Jennings was not in Tampa, but covered the Tampa
reaction live. ABC set up operations in the Trustees Conference Room.
Both networks televised from Tampa during and after the debate in first
time-ever, on campus appearances.
