CNN/Time Intern Confirms Passion for Politics

Bryce Thomas ’13, a marketing major, is spending the first week of classes as a marketing intern for CNN/Time, assisting with its coverage of the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa.

Her highlights so far?

“Talking to David Eisenhower, doing an interview for BET.com, meeting Herman Cain and being inspired,” said Thomas, who added that the internship has been an incredible experience.

She describes her responsibilities as promoting the CNN/Time Convention Floor Pass mobile application, providing social media marketing on foursquare and Twitter and promoting Time magazine.

“I have an extreme passion for politics,” Thomas said. “I believe in making a difference in my community, and what is a better way than to talk with the lawmakers who establish those policies.”

Thomas, who grew up in Old Saybrook, CT, said she has been interested in politics since her Aunt Velma Thomas ran for second selectman in her hometown.

“I would always walk door-to-door with her, and she would teach me how to conduct and interact with the community voters,” Thomas said.

Her week at the RNC has confirmed Thomas’ passion for politics and for making a difference in the world.

“Taking party affiliation aside, the men and women who are spending hours talking and interviewing members in the political arena are doing it because they believe and care about making a change,” she said. “It's highly respectable and inspiring to see the true conviction at the convention. Right, wrong or otherwise, they are coming to share their voice.”
