Career Specialties
Richard Squitieri's research focuses on the development of new methods for organic synthesis and organocatalysis, primarily focusing on integrating sustainable chemistry into processes, minimizing the use and generation of hazardous substances.
Professional and Community Activities
Squitieri's doctoral work at the University of California, Davis with Professor Jared Shaw resulted in four publications (not including those in preparation) and laid the foundation for a successful NIH-funded R01 research grant. This research focused on the development of methods for the enantioselective formation of carbon-carbon bonds utilizing a chiral rhodium catalyst.
Upon finishing his Ph.D., Squitieri continued his academic development, earning a post-doctoral position with Professor Karl Scheidt at Northwestern University. In Professor Scheidt’s lab, he furthered contributions to the field of organocatalysis. In less than a year he developed and built novel halogen bonding catalysts utilizing imidazolium and triazolium scaffolds that incorporate chiral counterions.
