Career Specialties
Lauren Malone specializes in digital rhetoric and pop culture studies, specifically the intersections of race, sexuality, and gender and how they influence various online communities.
Professional and Community Activities
Malone's dissertation focused on how queer people of color (QPoC) engage with pop culture spaces online. The results, including strategic engagement, curation of community artifacts and news, and community-building strategies, were then applied to pedagogical questions in order to build a framework for anti-oppressive digital rhetoric curriculum.
Malone's current research investigates hashtags and extended Twitter threads as forms of digital folklore.
