Professional and Community Activities
Hart's current research activities focus on internationalizing his research profile, developing innovative quantitative analytic methods, and making scholarly advances in victimization and fear of crime research. During the 2022-2023 school year, his peer-reviewed research article on the spatial distribution of sexual assaults before, during, and after COVID-19 restrictions appeared in the Journal of Criminal Justice. He also co-authored an article on "Top 10 Policing" as an alternative place-based patrol strategy with Dr. Nathan Connealy last year, which appeared in the journal Policing Practice and Research.
In June, Hart presented a workshop to members of the Florida Crime and Intelligence Analysts Association (FCIAA). It focused on how law enforcement in the state could improve crime risk estimation by identifying and incorporating physical barriers to crime into hot spot analysis.
In terms of service to the community, during the 2022-2023 school year, Hart continued his volunteer work with Boca Ciega High School’s Pirate Athletes’ Hall of Fame organization. He also continued coordinating Weedon Island Preserve’s parkrun, a free volunteer-organized 5K run, jog or walk that takes place in local parks around the world every Saturday morning. Weedon Island Preserve parkrun is one of only five parkruns in the state of Florida and only one of about 50 in the U.S.
